Lutheran Pilgrimage

to participate in picking olives with friends and locals at the Lutheran World Federation at the mount of olives. 

 

Day 1
Arrive at Ben-Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, where your guide will meet you. start the first day of the tour with a visit of the old city of Jaffa, one of the ancient gateways to the Holy Land. Here St. Peter lived in the house of Simon, the Tanner, and had the "Vision of the Flesh". continue our drive along the shore of the Mediterranean Sea to the modern port-city Haifa, situated on the slopes of the evergreen Mt. Carmel. Visit the Gardens and Temple of the Bahai. After the tour continue to the Galilee, where we will spend 2 nights at the Pilgerhaus guesthouse at the sores of the Sea of Galilee. Dinner and overnight at the guesthouse.

Day 2
 
Visit the places where Jesus practiced his sermons and miracles around the Sea of Galilee and start with the 2000-year-old boat from the time of Jesus, and sail the lake in a boat similar to that boat used by Jesus and his disciples. Then continue to Capernaum, with Peters House and the famous Synagogue and Tabgha, where tradition puts the miracle of the Bread and The Fish. We shall not miss the view from Mt. Beatitudes, where the "Sermon on the Mount" was given. In the afternoon, we drive past Korazin, one of the 3 cities warned by Jesus, and along the eastern shore of the lake, to Kursi, where the Swine's Miracle took place, and end the day at the Baptismal Site on the Holy River Jordan. return to the guesthouse for dinner and overnight.

Day 3
We start the day in Cana, where Jesus performed his first miracle by turning water into wine at a wedding in Cana, and pass Nazareth, to view the city where Jesus spent most of his life and absorb the special atmosphere on "The Mount of Precipitation". Continue to Mt. Tabor with its scenic Church of the Transfiguration. At the foot of the mountain, change from bus to Taxis that will take us up the steep road to the top of the mountain. After descending the mountain, drive along the Jordan Valley and ascend to the Holy City – Jerusalem to arrive at the Mount of Olives, to enjoy a panoramic view of the Holy City. After this, we continue to Abrahams Herberge, a Lutheran gueshouse in Beit Jala for dinner and overnight.

Day 4
A morning tour of the Church of Nativity, the Milk Grotto, Church of St. Catherine and the Shepherd’s field. Continue to the Mount of  Olives and visit the Augusta Victoria Hospital and view its facilities and have a discussion with its staff and representatives of the Lutheran World federation. Participate in mass at the Lutheran Church and participate in Olive picking (Seasonal) as well as a joint dinner. before returning checking in at the guesthouse for overnight. 

Day 5

From the mount of olives descend to the Garden of Gethsemane passing by the "Dominus Flevit" Church, overlooking the Temple Mount. We continue in the footsteps of Jesus along to Lion’s Gate where we will visit the Church of St. Anne, the birthplace of Mother Mary, the church of Flagellation and then onto the Stations of Cross at the Via Dolorosa, Jesus' "Way of Suffering", and unto the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, where Jesus was crucified and buried. The Via Dolorosa also passes through the Old City's oriental "Suq" (Bazaar). We will then continue to the Western Wall Tunnels where we will have a guided tour of the grounds under the Temple Mount. In the evening, return to our hotel in Bethlehem for dinner and overnight.

Day 6
Today we drive towards Jericho where we descend to the lowest place on Earth - visiting the Oldest continually inhabited city of Jericho and the Dead Sea. then drive along the western shore of the Dead Sea and arrive at Masada. Climb by cable-car the famous cliff-fortress of Masada, where Herod the Great built a magnificent palace in the middle of the desert. Masada was then used as a fortress by the Jewish "Zealots" who fought, few against many, against the pagan Roman Empire. Depart Masada and drive to the Dead Sea in order to spend some time in these unique and healing waters. Then we return to the guesthouse for dinner and overnight.

Day 7:
Transfer to Ben Gurion International Airport for departure flight back home.
